Buena Vista Live Music Venues

By Sue Bjorkman

The Lariat Bar and Grill

For consistently great live music year-round, “The Rope” always rocks. It’s located on Main Street in a circa 1885 building that was once BV’s first post office. More than a century later, this popular late-night music venue now attracts bands from all over the country. Without compromising the venue’s authentic ambiance, it’s been revamped to include a concert-quality elevated stage, state-of-the-art sound system, acoustics and lighting for bbluegrass, funk, country, classic rock, and Open Mic. Some events are ticketed, others free. 206 E. Main. http://thelariatbv.com/

The Beach

Summer time is fun time at BV’s favorite outdoor venue. Located in River Park in South Main, this spot offers grassy lawn seating and a natural free-flowing dance area. In the summer, free weekend night concerts feature lively bands spanning every genre from bluegrass to country to rock to folk alternative. It’s also festival-central, including the annual Rapidgrass Festival and many others. Music isn’t the only draw; the Beach is near the whitewater park, boulder garden and artsy outdoor living room in South Main, too. http://thebeachbv.com/

Forest Square Park

Home of the community Summer Concert Series, this beautiful outdoor venue is vibrant and family-friendly. On Thursday evenings beginning in mid-June, bring your own chair and enjoy everything from bluegrass to Americana to folk and country and much more. These concerts have a great grassroots, laid-back vibe. Located next to the Chamber of Commerce on US 24. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. House Rock Kitchen

This summer music outdoor venue has a playful side. From Memorial Day through September, music of nearly every genre is played every weekend from 5-8 pm on the patio stage. The space also grooves with patio games like Bocce, horseshoes, disc golf, and giant jenga. This large outdoor courtyard faces west – all the better to capture the evening sun and open up incredible views of nearby Mt. Princeton. 421 E. Main. http://www.houserockkitchen.com/

Jailhouse Craft Beer Bar

A portal to the Wild West, this atmospheric beer bar was once a 1880s jailhouse. Now it’s a fun glimpse into BV’s Gold Rush days while boasting an incredible rotating international lineup of brews, concerts and events. All the party holidays – Ski Season, Oktoberfest, St. Patrick’s Day – are celebrated here with live music. They host outdoor concerts at the adjacent Watershed BV Stage, a multi-use community space ideal for catching great entertainment from the comfort of a picnic table or wooden bench. 412 E. Main. http://www.thejailhousebv.com/

Deerhammer Distillery Co

This small, rustic whiskey bar and working distillery offers music inside during the winter and outdoors in the summer. Enjoy acoustic tunes on Sunday afternoons while cozying up to the bar to taste their award-winning cornerstone spirit, the Deehammer artisan single malt whiskey. In the summer, the distillery’s space more than doubles as the over-sized patio beckons with bands and a food truck well into the night. 321 E. Main St. https://www.deerhammer.com/

Mt. Princeton Hot Springs & Spa

This unconventional setting for an outdoor concert just makes it all the more enchanting. Not only do you get to soak in blissful natural geothermal waters, but you get serenaded while doing so. The Music by the Pools Concert Series runs Fridays in September and October with a wide variety of music genres. Concerts are free with pools admission or overnight stay. Surrounded by the Collegiate Peaks soaring over 14,000 feet, the captivating views are quite the bonus. There’s a cash bar, Juice Bar and other libations in the Mt. Princeton Club Restaurant and bar. 15870 CR 162, Nathrop. https://mtprinceton.com/

Eddyline Restaurant and Brewery & Eddyline Taproom and Brewery

These two locations make up Buena Vista’s budding craft beer scene. In the summer, their signature adventure-pairing brews are matched with live music at the outdoor Beer Garden. The covered, multi-purpose stage features an outdoor bar and seating and makes a fantastic atmosphere for concerts. Other events are always brewing, too. Restaurant is on 926 South Main St. Taproom is at 102 Linderman Ave. http://eddylinebrewing.com/

Orpheum Theater Building

Built in 1910, this ornate 5,000 square foot theater was the town’s cultural soul. All kinds of diverse entertainment from silent movies (and later ‘talkies’) to plays, concerts and sporting events made this place a big draw. After decades of falling into disrepair, a non-profit organization revived this grand structure and transformed into a performance and event center. Check their calendar for upcoming events. 415 E. Main. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Orpheum-Theatre-Inc/

Restaurants that Rock

While not traditional live music venues, many of BV’s restaurants feature live music on weekends or special occasions. From acoustic guitar to small ensembles, dinner and tunes always go together deliciously. Check out The Asian Palate, http://www.theasianpalate.com/ and Quincy’s Tavern http://quincystavern.com /
