Three Day Romantic Itinerary

Couples with a passion for paradise will find it in every ‘mountain rustic’ romantic corner of Chaffee County. Just being together in such an adventurous place amidst majestic mountains, rapid rivers, bluebird skies and starry nights is exciting. Now add outdoorsy fun from hiking to hot springs to whitewater rafting and this just became your new favorite get-away destination. And did we mention breweries, distilleries and wineries too? It’s all here. All yours. You’re welcome.

Day One: Salida

Start your Salida sojourn at the cozy Brown Dog Coffee Co, before going wild at Captain Zipline Adventure Park. Take the plunge together in this adrenalized adventure. Flying trapeze, anyone?

Then relax by the riverside at the stylish Twisted Cork Grill and Taphouse sharing a few ‘small plates.’ Right next door in the Mountain Spirit Winery and Gallery there’s always a complimentary wine tasting going on.

This afternoon, get artsy at Colorado’s first official Creative Arts District. Downtown Salida received this designation in 2012 thanks to its eclectic and innovative visual arts scene. Visit the Art and Salvage Gallery and Culture Clash and Four Winds Gallery, just to name a few. Founded in 1880, the entire downtown is a national historic district, so take in its artsy architecture, too.

Now on to the art-of-competition at the Poncha Springs Disc Golf course. Golf is free but pick up some discs at Salida Mountain Sports.

Making craft beer is an art too, and local brewers are doing it tastefully at Elevation BrewerySoulcraft Brewing Company, and Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub. Cheers!

The art of fine dining – and craft cocktails — is evident at Shallots Restaurant, 127 W. First St. Just a few doors down, find the new Biker and the Baker, an upscale wine and dessert bar.

Tonight, take a moonlit stroll hand-in-hand on the River Walk then check out the lively local nightlife at Benson’s Tavern and the Victoria Tavern.

Day Two: Buena Vista

Enjoy breakfast and local organic coffee at the Buena Vista Roastery.

Now on to one of the Upper Arkansas Valley’s signature thrills — whitewater rafting. There’s no shortage of reputable guide companies, but here’s a few suggestions: Kodi Rafting, or Independent Whitewater River Rafting. Take the Browns Canyon run or if you’re fit and fearless, go with The Numbers.

For lunch, go to the Eddyline Restaurant to complete your Chaffee County brew-tour. Then meander to downtown BV’s Main Street, stopping in at Courtyard Gallery and Gift Boutique, Co-Creative Design, and Rustic Woods.

This afternoon, you rock! Go rock climbing at favorite local spots like Davis Face, Elephant Rock and the Fourmile Recreation area. Even if you’ve never tried it, guides from Arkansas Valley Adventures and Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center can show you the ropes. Literally. Have a sushi night at The Asian Palate, then let loose at The Lariat Bar, a live-music venue with a history of good times since 1885.

Day Three: Out There

Get sweets for the sweet at Loback’s Bakery, 326 E. Main St. then indulge in a spa (and ahhh…) day at Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort and Spa. Share a Couples Massage, an unbelievably relaxing Swedish massage for two before enjoying lunch at Mt. Princeton Beer Garden.

Then surrender to the steamy, dreamy 100% natural and odorless hot springs pools on the Adults-Only side, surrounded by stunning mountain views. Also recline in the creek’s natural ‘hot pots’ for a truly unique experience. Later dine at the Princeton Club Restaurant, and toast each other with a Chalk Creek Martini. End this enchanted evening by honky-tonking at the Green Parrot Bar, 304 E. Main St. in Buena Vista.
