Art Fests Abound in 2019

The “biggest little art town in Colorado,” is the perfect canvas for Art Festivals. Plan your vacation to Salida and Buena Vista around these colorful and creative celebrations.  

Fine Arts Festival

Valley Visions Art Exhibition (May 3- June 2) 

The incredible and diverse works of about 40 local artists will be showcased at this annual celebration held at the historic Steam Plant Annex in Salida. Meet the artists at the Public Grand Opening Reception on Friday, May 3 from 4-7 pm. This festive atmosphere features live entertainment, gourmet appetizers, and cash bar. Twenty percent of all art sales go to benefit the local art programs. Presented by the Salida Council for the Arts.  


The Chaffee Arts Annual Open Awards Show (May 3-15)

 Every art medium from oils and watercolors to glass and ceramics (and more!) will be displayed at this 35th annual fest in Buena Vista. The works of about 50 artists in 11 categories will be showcased Vote for the People’s Choice Award, watch fascinating art demonstrations and maybe even take home a local masterpiece, too. The fest also celebrates the creative works of young students active in KidzArt Free Art Classes as well as the winners of the Boys and Girls Club of BV art contest. Held in Buena Vista’s Heritage Museum.  


Salida ArtWalk (June 20-23) 

Take a walk on the art-side. The 27th annual fest invites you to meet the extraordinary local artists on their own home turf. Immerse yourself in the artsy activities around every corner as you walk through the first certified Creative District in Colorado, a.k.a. downtown Salida. Be amazed and delighted by the creative works on display at more than 20 galleries, studios and other venues. In addition to artist demonstrations, this event gets lively with street performers, live music and culinary events, too.


Salida Arts Festival (June 29-30) 

The sixth-annual “boutique” festival showcases the creations of about 80 juried artists in a beautiful open-air event in Salida’s Centennial Park. The art experience is enhanced by acoustic live music, wandering minstrels, and an upscale food truck or two. The park venue is conveniently located on Highway 50 next to the Salida Aquatic Center.


Salida Riverside Fine Arts Festival (July 20-21) 

Riverside Park becomes an outdoor gallery ready to show off the extraordinary talents of 90 local and national juried artists. This 11th annual fest also features food booths, a kid’s art station, face painting and the Creation Station for all art lovers. Musicians, including the iconic Hazel Miller Band add the art of music to the scene. Free admission and parking. Leashed dogs are welcome.  


Salida Fiber Festival (Sept. 7-8) 

Join 65 of the finest fiber artists for a festival celebrating textiles in many traditional and contemporary forms.  Held in Riverside Park, this event has quickly become one of the most popular fiber festivals in the West. Demos, a Fiber Art Exhibition and a Pop-Up Fashion Show add to the fiber fun. Food, drink and also children’s activities fill in this fun weekend. 


Second Saturday Art Walks and Gallery Tours (Year-round)

 Meet the artists making incredible art in Salida’s numerous galleries. Once a month, talented local artists welcome visitors to their creative spaces on the second Saturday from 4-9 pm. Enjoy this vibrant, entertaining atmosphere of one-of-a-kind offerings from paintings to pottery, sculpture to ceramics, and fiber arts to fine arts. They’re all within wandering distance of each other, making for an easy stroll in the Creative District.


Second Thursday Creative Mixer (Year-round) 

An open gathering of local and visiting artists working in all genres is held monthly at the Paquette Gallery in the historic Steam Plant Event Center from 5:30-7 pm. Enjoy the gallery’s current exhibition while meeting other creative souls. Live music, appetizers and a cash bar add to the inspiring evening.
