Colorful Attractions
There’s no doubt that the different mountain ranges and the scenery with which it is surrounded are some of Colorado’s largest attractions. However, visitors often want to get off the slopes, take a break from the hiking trails, and relax after some of the more thrilling and extreme outdoor activities and so Colorado has many other attractions that are must-sees along with all of the different ski resorts. Whatever area of Colorado you are staying in, there is sure to be something to see and do for everyone!
One of the first stops for people visiting Colorado is often visiting the state’s capital, Denver. This city, which has been nicknamed “The Mile High” city, due to its elevation, has many different things that are very appealing to tourists. Larimer Square is one of the oldest parts of the city and here are some of the only remnants of what the city once was. Today tourists find many shops that offer trendy and funky items, unlike the chain stores that can be found just about anywhere. This section of the city is known as “LoDo”, meaning Lower Downtown, which is full of places of interest. While in Denver visitors also like to take full advantage of the arts and culture that can be found in the city. The Colorado History Museum, Denver Art Museum, and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts are all wonderful places to do this!
Boulder is another main tourist city within Colorado because of all the things that it has to offer! The National Center for Atmospheric Research is a wonderful learning opportunity for science geeks who want to experiment with exhibits, videos, and colorful displays. This is also a wonderful day spent with the kids. Boulder Falls is a natural waterfall that is worth the short hike that it may take to get to. These waterfalls fall an impressive seventy feet and just under the falls is a viewing area which will allow guests to appreciate every square inch of the rushing water. And for those who want to experience Shakespeare the way it is meant to be seen, there is the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, which brings classical plays to life in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Aspen is one of the most famous cities visited by tourists travelling through Colorado. The Wheeler Opera House is a theater where people can visit to take in the gorgeous historical structure or catch a performance that will surely give you goose bumps! This wonderful building has been standing for years and is one of the original buildings of the city. It has been restored and although it now contains some modern amenities, it has still managed to retain all of its old-fashioned charm! Ashcroft Ghost Town can also be found in Aspen. This is a very eerie place where all that still stands is twelve abandoned buildings. Come during the day and tour around, picturing cowboys of days past and if you dare, come back at night and perhaps meet some of those same cowboys!
Colorado Springs is a huge tourist attraction in itself in the state of Colorado and this city as well, has so much more to offer than just skiing! For those who are into the Winter Olympics or are just sports enthusiasts, there is the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and Museum. This wonderful building walks through some of the most famous figure skaters to ever take the ice and profiles their lives and careers. The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center is a one-stop shop for all art lovers! Here not only is there an art school and theater but there is also a museum showcasing some of the world’s best artists!
