In case you are unfamiliar, Buena Vista means ‘beautiful view’ in Spanish. And the name truly says it all. Resting at roughly 8,000 feet elevation, the town of Buena Vista Colorado is nestled between the majestic Continental Divide to the West and the Fourmile Recreation Area foothills to the East, with the impressive Arkansas River running through town.
This understated central Colorado town is a well-kept secret for Colorado outdoor enthusiasts. On any given day in Buena Vista, within minutes of your accommodation, one can hike, bike, kayak, raft, horse trek, backpack, ski, snowshoe, snowmobile and much more. It’s really only limited by your imagination.
There are countless off-road trails to explore out of Buena Vista with your dirt bike or ATV. The Fourmile Recreation Area is open pretty much all year, plus the many dirt roads traversing the Continental Divide are a summertime treat.
Check out the unique riverside trail systems at the end of Main Street on the Arkansas River. These trails not only cross the river and access other seemingly endless trail systems, but also link the river park to the newly developed part of Buena Vista downtown called South Main.
The true beauty of Buena Vista is its laid-back atmosphere and unobstructed mountain views. Grab a drink and relax on a sunbaked deck, watching clouds come over the legendary Collegiate Peaks.
Relax like a local at one of two nearby natural geothermic hot springs. Mount Princeton Hot Springs or Cottonwood Hot Springs are open to the public and offer spa and massage services in addition to their hot spring pools.
No matter what you want to experience in Buena Vista Colorado, this town does have it all.
